4804: Drawing of Static Issues During Inkjet Date Coding

Static Issues During Inkjet Date Coding

Download

Problem

Dusty or statically charged products cause issues when date or batch coding, using inkjet printers. Typical issues include:

  • Unclear print due to misting
  • Repeated print head blockage
  • ESD damage to the print head circuit board

Solution

The use of ionisation or ionised air will neutralise the static charges that are holding contamination to the product surface. Using ionised air will clean the surface of contamination, therefore allowing the ink to adhere to the product, rather than the contamination.

In the event of heavy contamination, using an air amplifier connected to a vacuum bag will help capture the airborne dirt particles, preventing environmental contamination issues.

The drawings show different options available to overcome these printing issues.
