Static Issues During Inkjet Date Coding
PROBLEM
Dusty or statically charged products cause issues when date or batch coding, using inkjet printers.
Typical issues include:
- Unreadable print due to misting
- Repeated print head blockage
- ESD damage to the print head circuit board
SOLUTION
Neutralising static charges on the product prior to printing, prevents the static charges from repelling the ink as it leaves the print head.
Ink that is repelled by static charges will be attracted back onto the print head, resulting in blockages as it dries. If the static charges are high enough on the product as it passes the print head, stack charges can jump the gap, resulting is electrical spikes which can damage components on the printer.
If the print surface is dusty, the dust will prevent the ink from adhering to the product. Ionised air will be needed to remove static charges and clean the print area. A 261 ionising nozzle would offer spot cleaning of the print area.
