It is recommended to use a 5-micron (or smaller) filter to remove water and dirt from the compressed air supply. A 5-micron filter will remove 99% of foreign material from the air supply; the use of an oil filter with an effective filtration of 0.01 ppm will remove the oil droplets for an even cleaner compressed air supply.

Meech’s air technology solutions are designed to utilise ambient air to boot the existing compressed air supply. This reduces the need to generate as much compressed air. In some cases, Meech products will entrain ambient air at ratios of 25:1. Additionally, Meech products will extend the life of the air compressor.
There are no moving parts in any of the MAT products. This reduces maintenance and extends the life of the product.
The recommended air pipe sizes for Meech MAT products depend on the specific application and product type. However, as a general rule all air piping should be at least 8mm ID and where possible fed directly from the compressed air ring main.
For detailed recommendations on air pipe sizes for your Meech MAT system, please refer to the operating or manual or contact Meech directly.
MAT products are designed to integrate into process applications with minimal technical requirements/modifications.
For optimal performance with Meech Air Technology products, the compressed air should be clean, dry, and free of oil or contaminants. Ideally, the air should meet ISO 8573-1:2010 Class 1.4.1 standards, meaning the air should be filtered to remove particles, water vapor, and oil. Ensuring clean, dry and contaminant free compressed air will prevent damage, maintain efficiency, and maximise the lifespan of your Meech equipment.
The Meech Air Efficiency Range harnesses two basic principles.
- The Coanda effect, whereby air tends to follow a curved surface and
- The Venturi effect, which refers to the entrainment of air. The venturi effect results from channeling compressed air through a narrow passage, this accelerates the air flow and creates an area of low-pressure.
This low pressure entrains surrounding ambient air significantly boosting the total volume of air output without increasing the amount of compressed air.
This results in an increased air output up to 25 times the input air value.
Whilst MAT products can be daisy chained together, connecting the individual products from one air supply, you cannot feed one MAT product into another in an attempt to improve the results. For example, you cannot feed a Vortex Tube into an Air Curtain to attempt to get a curtain of cold air.
No, you do not need a special compressor for Meech Air Technology (MAT) products to function. However, the compressor should be capable of providing the appropriate pressure flow rates specified by the MAT product you are using.
Generators in the Meech Vortex Cooling Range are small components that fit inside the spin chamber and can easily be changed depending on the application. Generators regulate the flow of compressed air through the Vortex Tube. By controlling the air entering the Vortex Tube you can regulate both the volume of air and temperature of air exiting the Vortex tube.
Meech provide 8 different generators, 4 x “high” fraction (H) and 4 x “low” cold fraction (L) generators. High fraction generators, in colours Yellow, Red, Blue and Brown are designed to give the most efficient cooling. This means that over 50% of the input air will exit the cold end of the Vortex Tube. Low fraction generators, in colours Green, White, Grey and Beige are designed to give the lowest temperature possible. This means they are not as efficient and over 50% of the input air will exit the hot end of the Vortex Tube. Typically, most application will use the High Fraction Generators and with all products (excluding the Vortex Tube and Experimental kits) these four generators are supplied as standard.
The cold fraction refers to the ratio of compressed air that exits both the hot and cold ends of the vortex products. Meech Vortex products are typically factory set to 70% Cold Fraction, meaning 30% of the input air exits the hot end of the vortex Tube and 70% exits the cold end of the Vortex Tube. Adjustments can be made to the cold fraction sing the adjustable black knob that is present on certain vortex products. adjusting the control valve directly control how much air is allowed to exit the hot end, this in turn will affect how much air exits the cold end. The higher the volume exiting the how end the lower the volume exiting the cold end. The lower volume will mean the air is colder. The lower the volume exiting the hot end the higher the volume exiting the cold end and the warmer the air will be.
We would not recommend using the Vortex Tube on pressures over 11bar. Typically, we factory set all products to 5.5 Bar (80psi). As a minimum, we would recommend running MAT products above 1 Bar.
