Blown film line

PROBLEM

Blown film lines are prone to producing static charges during processing. These static charges can result in:

  • Attraction of contamination to the film
  • Electrostatic shocks to operators
  • Rewind tension issues
  • Customer complaints during next process.

Controlling static charges needs to be done though out the film production. Corona treaters will add to the problem, as will slitting and separating the film.

SOLUTION

  • Immediately after corona treatment, the film must be statically neutralised. The longer the static charges from corona treatment remain, the deeper they penetrate the film structure, making removal more difficult.
  • After slitting and separation the two films must be neutralised at close range to create a neutrally charged web, failure to control the very high random positive and negative charges will make control of static charges when rewinding difficult.
  • Path rollers and rewinding regenerate static charges, these charges will be predominantly a positive or negative charge, making control of the residual static level in the rewound roll easier to manage at the bars variable distance, that required during the rewinding.
