Laminating embossed aluminum

PROBLEM

The embossing process of aluminum creates an uneven surface making applying a protective film more troublesome. Trapped air bubbles on the uneven surface can result in delamination or the use of low tack adhesive being used to hold the film to the sheet.

SOLUTION

Applying a static charge to the lamination film, pulls the film into the recesses caused by the embossing. This prevents air bubbles and removes the requirement for adhesives.

The use of a passive grounded brush provides a path to ground from the aluminum sheet, which is needed for static charging, without the risk of surface damage.
