The generation of controlled static charge on a non-conductive material will allow temporary adhesion between two or more surfaces.
A high DC voltage of up to 50kV is carried to a special array of emitter pins to create a “corona”. With the emitter pins positioned in close proximity to a grounded surface, material passing into the field will be charged and bonded to adjacent surfaces.
No, static generators provide either negative or positive charges. The polarity of the generator must be specified at time of ordering. The polarity required will depend on application and materials used.
The output and current requirement will be dependent on the application.
Meech offers a range of static generators; to choose the correct one for your application please reach out to your local Meech distributor or contact Meech directly for more assistance.
Meech supply a range of static generators which include:
Hyperion 994CG – compact generator developed for the In-Mould Labelling market.
Hyperion Ioncharge30 (IC30)– designed for use across a range of common applications including pinning, bag making, and card insertion.
Hyperion Ioncharge50 (IC50) – designed for a range of applications that require a higher output voltage.
Yes, both the IC30 and IC50 have built in perforation and hole detection functionality for use in applications such as the manufacture of plastic bags. IonCharge30 can be setup for spark detection when used with a high voltage electrode (hot bar). Sparks detected are output as a pulse signal to a PLC for counting and activating other machine functions.
The Meech IonCharge30/50 can be controlled remotely by connecting the Meech2PLC (24V) module. The Meech 2PLC module allows connectivity to industrial networks via its RJ45 connector.
Protocols available for use with the IC30/50 include:
- EtherNet/IP,
- Profinet IRT,
- Profibus DPV1
- EtherCAT
- Modbus TCP
To minimise frequent user adjustments, the IC generators will automatically adjust the current level to maintain the set voltage/automatically adjust the voltage level to maintain the set current (depending on set up).
The Hyperion 994CG Compact IML Generator is the first generator to be developed as part of the Hyperion range. Designed to meet the growing demand for a compact, lightweight generator to fit on the end of a robot arm.
The 994CG features 4 x 25kV outlets, allowing the coupling of Meech Hydras without the need for a HV splitter.
It is also powered by a 21-30V DC supply making it one of the most powerful compact IML Generators available.
To set the IC30/50 for perforation/ hole detection mode, you must first install the high voltage electrode (hot bar) at a distance between 5mm and 25mm from the earth potential and connect one of the HV outputs to the IC generator.
Within the touch screen interface go to the settings, then parameters where you can enable the perforation detection mode.
Set the minimum voltage output and maximum current output. Make sure that the earth potential is exposed to the emitter head. Slowly increase the voltage on the IC generator until the high voltage electrode sparks to earth.
The IC30 can be used for a wide range of applications such as but not limited to:
- Bag Making – Gusset Pinning, hole punching shingling etc
- Tag Transfer – ID tag transfer to moving web.
- Chip Placement – electrical chip inspection systems
- In-Mould Labelling (IML) – Label placement
- Card Insertion – Books, magazines etc
- Saddle Stitching – Magazine production etc
The IC50 can be used for a wide range of applications such as but not limited to:
- Core Pinning – Automated turret rewinds
- Laminating – Formica, work tops.
- Sheet Pinning – Compensation stackers, stack compression.
- Ribbon Taking – Newspapers
- Hole Detection – Bottles, webs.
- Edge Pinning -Cast film extrusion.
